How We Built These Three Tiers

After too many hot pot nights to count, the setup advice collapses to one sentence: spend on heat control and pot width, save on everything else. The Minimal tier proves you can have a legitimately great hot pot night on one all-in-one electric pot. The Sweet Spot adds an induction cooktop — faster, safer, and the separate wide pot lets six people reach the boil at once. The Full Setup adds the yin-yang divided pot, which is not a luxury if half your table fears spice: mala on one side, clear broth on the other, argument over.

The pantry section is the sleeper hit of this page. Seven shelf-stable items — two broth bases, sesame paste, sha cha, chili oil, black vinegar, soy sauce — cover every sauce and broth in our five classic sauce recipes. Buy them once; every future hot pot night costs only fresh ingredients.

Not sure about any gear choice? Our equipment guide explains the trade-offs in detail, and the Hot Pot Builder turns your guest count into exact ingredient quantities once the hardware is sorted.
